“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come.” – Joseph Campbell
If you’ve recently suffered a heartbreak, or even if your heartbreak was a while ago but you still don’t feel over it and healed from your ex, this month’s New Moon is the perfect time to set some powerful healing in motion!
In my work as a Psychic, Medium and Healer, I’m used to people coming to me for advice about moving on after a failed relationship. A lot of people simply want to bounce back quickly from a break up but find that, even when following great and reasonable advice, they just can’t seem to get out of the raw heartache they’re feeling.
Creating complex self-care programs and making massive shifts in your practical life is all well and good if you have the energy and resources to do it. But what happens when most, if not all, of your energy is being taken up just trying to get through the pain of each day?
Well, read on because if you want to make powerful positive changes in your life but don’t know how to start, I’m going to share 7 Simple Steps that will help get you shifting that heartbreak energy and on the road to deep healing.
New Moon, New You. Use the Energy of the New Moon to Supercharge Your Healing!
The energy of the New Moon is a great place to start when you need to refresh and realign your focus to one of healing and new beginnings. Each New Moon is a chance to engage with revitalizing energy and May’s 2018 New Moon is a particularly potent one. This New Moon will arrive on May 15th at 7:48 am EST / 4:48 am PST.
May is a time for new beginnings because it falls in spring, a natural time to plant new ideas and energies. This year’s May New Moon aligns with some pretty seismic planetary shifts as well – adding extra potency to the already powerful energy that will be flying about.
Uranus will be transitioning into Taurus for the first time since the 1940’s and Mars will change signs from Capricorn into Aquarius, all of which will bring with it concepts of change. When a planet shifts into a new sign it brings new energy to work with, and since Taurus has a lot of energy related to grounding and stability, this is a good time for you to make small but potent changes to your daily life.
Small Steps – The Path to Success
People often focus on making huge changes to their lives after a nasty breakup, but in many cases real change starts with little steps that build on one another. When you take simple steps towards positive change, it sends a powerful message to both your subconscious and the Universe that you’re ready for real healing to begin.
And, when you want that extra boost – what better way than starting to put these simple steps into place than on the powerfully regenerative New Moon?
Below you’ll find seven simple ideas to help you begin to shift your energy.
Salt Bath & Smudge
Cleansing on an energetic as well as physical level can do you the world of good when you are grieving the loss of a relationship. One of the most potent ways to deep cleanse and start to let go of negative energy is to relax in a salt bath. These baths are great ways to cleanse because the salt diffuses negative energy.
To take a cleansing salt bath you will need salt that is not iodized. Himalayan salt, sea salt, and Epsom salts are ideal. Add some salt to a bath and spend some time resting in the water. Take some deep breaths and allow the salt to cleanse any negative energy you are carrying.
If you want to supercharge the effects of your salt bath cleanse you can also add certain healing crystals that are especially good at absorbing negativity. Black Tourmaline is great for this, as well as Obsidian, Black Onyx and Rose Quartz. Placing your crystal in direct sunlight before and after your cleansing bath will help. By putting it in sunlight before your bath you infuse it with the powerful positive effects of the sun’s rays, and after will help to clear and charge it for the next time you use it.
After you get out of your bath, release the water and visualize negative energy draining away with it.
Another way to enjoy the healing power of salt is to get into the sea if you live near the ocean – if it’s cold you can just put your hands or feet in. If you don’t have a bathtub you can still use saltwater to help cleanse and clear your energy. Get a tub or bucket and add your salt to warm water. Then dip your feet into it and relax. Or, you can pour saltwater onto yourself when taking a shower.
Once you’ve deep cleansed in a ritual bath you can follow up with smudging, which is a way of using fragrant smoke to cleanse and clear negative energy from you and your living space.
Smudging is a quick no-fuss way to clear! You can use material like Sage, Palo Santo or Cedarwood to smudge. Here’s my method for effective smudging:
- Set your intention to cleanse and clear your space.
- Close all your windows (make sure you take note of fire alarms and are careful with burning material!).
- Light your smudge stick and make sure you allow the smoke to enter each corner of each room.
- When you have finished smudging open all the doors and windows in your house and visualize all negative energy releasing with the smoke as it clears.
Create a Healing Corner in Your Home
Intention is everything when it comes to healing and feeling better after a breakup, and a great way to harness the power of the New Moon and new beginnings is to dedicate a small space in your home to your healing.
Find a small table or side that you can clear – it could be in your living room, bedroom or any other area you like. Then find objects that remind you of positive times and what you would like to invite into your life. You can use pictures, coloured cloth, ornaments, candles – anything that appeals to you and gives you a sense of your healing intention. Each time you walk past this space it provides a powerful visual reminder that you are ready to heal.
Mirror Trick – I am Enough
Your self-esteem can take a real bashing when you go through a tough breakup. Affirmations are a powerful tool to help you build your self-esteem. I have my own particular method for effective affirmations and I am going to share that in detail with you at a later date. Right now though, you might struggle to regularly use affirmations if you are still feeling overwhelmed by your breakup.
So, in the meantime, I’d like you to try this simple self-esteem booster, which is taught by Marisa Peer.
Find a mirror you see regularly. A bathroom mirror is perfect. Then write the words ‘I Am Enough’ on the mirror. You can use a whiteboard pen, post-it notes or tape a note onto the mirror. Each time you go into your bathroom read the words and repeat them out loud to your reflection.
This hack might sound simple but give it a try for a few days. You might be surprised by what a powerful difference it can make!
Plant a Healing Intention
Have you ever planted something from seed and watched it grow? If not, now is the time. Watching plants as they transform from tiny shoots into full leaves and flowers is both satisfying and empowering.
If you don’t have a garden, don’t worry! You can plant a small herb in a pot on your kitchen windowsill. Get hold of some soil and a pot, as well as a few seeds and as you plant them set your intention to grow through this painful experience of heartbreak. A great herb to choose could be mint as it’s refreshing and symbolic of new beginnings.
Play a Sound Frequency Healing
Since my speciality is Sound Frequency Healing I wasn’t going to leave this suggestion out! By playing powerful frequencies as you relax and allow yourself to be open to receive, you send a fantastic message to yourself and the Universe that now is your time – now you are ready to heal!
If you’ve never listened to sound frequencies before then I suggest you start here. The action of taking time for yourself and listening to a frequency specifically designed to help you with heartbreak is powerful.
There are lots of ways for you to enjoy the healing effects of sound and plenty of cultures use sound in different ways to help provide healing and comfort. For an in-depth guide to the different ways that Sound Healing can positively impact you, check out this comprehensive article. You can use sounds that include sound baths, mantras, wind chimes, Tibetan singing bowls, and gongs to name just a few. Each of these methods can help to cleanse and clear your energy.
Choose the “I Choose” Way!
One of the worst parts about breakups is often that you never chose for this to happen. Even if you were the one to instigate the breakup it can still be very painful as you start to adjust to your new life without your ex.
Feeling powerless and at the mercy of your breakup hurts. That’s why it’s important to start taking back your power in small ways. While it’s true that you might not have chosen to be in the situation you are in now, you DO have a choice about the actions you take each day to help your healing.
Reclaiming your power can start with small steps in adjusting your perspective. When you think about your life post-breakup from the perspective of feeling forced to make changes and powerless about them you are aligning your mindset with lower vibrations of fear, doubt and disempowerment.
This can commonly be seen in the way you talk to yourself with sentences that include ‘I should’, and ‘I have to,’ when it comes to things you are telling yourself you don’t want to do.
When you reframe this energy and your perspective to one of choice it can help to give you back your power over painful situations. Once you realise how much choice you still have over the things you do each day, you start to feel more control over how you feel.
Changing the way you talk to yourself from ‘I have to’ to ‘I choose to’ can work for many situations that you dislike or feel disempowered about.
So for example, say you feel negative about going to work or school because you feel down about your breakup. A disempowered you might say “I have to go to work – god I hate it.” An empowered you will say “I choose to go to work, even though I don’t feel great about it.”
This kind of reframing allows you to get back in the driver’s seat in small ways – which all add up over time!
Let go of Some of Your to-do List
Sometimes the most powerful and simple changes come when you learn to give yourself a break. If your self-esteem is very wrapped up in how many items you can tick off your ‘to-do’ list then consider taking at least one afternoon or evening a week where you focus exclusively on letting go of that list.
Your worth is about far more than how many things you can get done each week, and taking some time to consciously rest and refresh yourself is a powerfully healing step.
So take some time to care for yourself by taking your foot off the gas pedal for a few hours.
You can use any of the simple steps above on the New Moon to help you harness the great healing energy that will be available to you. If you don’t have time to complete one of these steps though, don’t worry. The new Moon energy will continue to build for a few days after the actual event, so you can still get on board the New Moon Energy Train in the days after it occurs.
